May 7, 2026

May 7 is recognized as Canadian Viral Hepatitis Elimination Day (also known as CanHepDay)

The day is dedicated to raising awareness about hepatitis B and C, reducing stigma, and advocating for increased access to testing and treatment in Canada.

Communities across Ontario are celebrating, raising awareness, and acting to help connect people with HCV to cure. Below are some of the events planned for May:

Sioux Lookout: A Dried Blood Spot testing event is scheduled for May in Sioux Lookout to build on momentum from previous successful testing events
Timmins: Dinner, trivia, education and testing clinic with the Timmins team at Constance lake First Nation
Sudbury: First Nations testing and education event in community hub beginning of May
North Bay: offering " Testing and Tacos", serving folks both Indigenous tacos and regular tacos with the option to get POC testing for hep C/HIV
